Why “Do Better?”
One of my favorite cut shots of my life, and a player asked me, "How do I get that shot?" My answer, with a big grin: "Do better."
Not the coaching answer. But those two words became the name of everything I do.
I'd spent years playing indoor, grass, and beach volleyball, learning from amazing coaches and players along the way. Eventually I started coaching myself, with a heavy emphasis on bio-mechanics — and that's where I learned something that applies to every business I touch: most people don't need more effort. They need better mechanics.
I didn't start my career behind a desk reading marketing textbooks. I learned business operations from the ground up. I did go to college, but I often found my work in office overshadowing what I learned at school. Early on at SpectralCast, I worked directly alongside the CEO — not in one role, but wearing every hat the company had. The boss told me to train with the CFO? I'd shadow him for the next six months. We needed warehouse control? Off I went to learn the systems that run warehouse and inventory. From warehouse logistics and supply-chain shipping to investor relations and financial tracking, I saw firsthand how every moving piece in an organization affects the business.
Then came a few years of travel, volleyball, surfing, bartending, even running a bar. When I went home to San Diego, I put everything I'd learned to work in the service industry — a friend was building his own company, and I had a mission to help people grow.
Through years in the startup and service worlds, I noticed a massive trend: most business owners build their operations using piecemeal advice, AI hacks, and online posts. They patch together different tools and strategies, creating hidden operational holes and oversights that leak thousands of dollars in revenue every month.
"Either I got lucky, or something I'm doing works."
When I first stepped into independent consulting, I didn't want to be just another generic agency selling empty promises. Then I met my second client — a local plumber ready to quit his job and go solo.
We sat down, mapped out his goals, and rebuilt his operational pipeline from scratch. Within a year, he went from a solo operator to managing a team of 10, buying work vans, and crossing seven figures in revenue.
That was the turning point. It wasn't luck — it was a proven approach to building real, scalable operational systems.
What I do today
Through Do Better Operations, I help service-based companies bridge the gap between digital visibility and actual revenue. Five years as a fractional operations manager across roughly 30 companies — CRMs implemented, automated workflows built, marketing execution managed — means I bring deep operational experience to every business I partner with.
I don't sell vanity metrics or push tools you don't need. I dive into your business as an embedded partner to fix broken pipelines, streamline operations, and make sure every dollar you invest turns into tracked, bottom-line revenue.
